Changes to Yodel courier rates slammed as 'morally wrong'
GMB Union has slammed changes to Yodel courier rates, which come into effect today [Monday 15 September].
Crisis-hit Thames Water are embroiled in a row over the sacking of a GMB Union representative.
The employee in question worked for the company with 25 years of dedicated service.
GMB allege the worker was sacked by Thames Water for speaking out over health & safety concerns at Mogden Sewage Treatment Works, which was featured in recent BBC documentary Thames Water: Inside the Crisis.
After the worker raised these concerns, they were dismissed due to complaints about their conduct following an incident that occurred many months prior.
GMB also alleges that Thames Water did not follow proper process. The complaints against the worker were never raised with GMB officials and the external investigator brought in by Thames Water progressed the complaints without conducting a full and proper investigation.
Mick Lancaster, GMB Regional Organiser, said:
“The timing of this case is deeply suspicious.
“It leads us to believe that our representative has been targeted due to their trade union activities and raising concerns about unsafe practices at Thames Water.
“As a union representative, they have a duty to speak out and they should not be punished for doing so.
“We are calling on Thames Water to reinstate this long serving and upstanding employee.”
