Ryanair flights at Stansted could be severely disrupted this summer if GMB members are balloted for industrial action over pay
GMB members employed by ABM Blue Handling, contracted to work for Ryanair to handle ground baggage for all Ryanair flights at London Stansted Airport are demanding to be fairly rewarded considering Ryanair reported £1.2bn in profits for 2022.
Daren Parmenter, GMB London Region Organiser said:
"GMB members have been balloted for industrial action overpay through a consultative ballot. We have met with the employer on several occasions in the hope of making some progress on pay. Unfortunately, the employer has not put forward an improved offer that would meet our members' demands, after months of negotiations this sadly leaves us with no alternative but to ballot our members for industrial action.
“Ryanair announced £1.2bn profit for last year, which is a near record for the largest airline in Europe.
“Industrial action isn’t good news for a sector in the aviation industry that is struggling to recruit and retain staff. Last summer exposed the airport chaos that can be caused in a sector that is blighted by low pay and conditions. Our members are simply seeking a fair reward for the hard work and dedication they contribute to Ryanair making such huge profits.
