GMB Union has slammed changes to Yodel courier rates, which come into effect today [Monday 15 September].
The changes have seen a drop in the full rate paid to couriers for each parcel delivered to customers.
Members have complained about a lack of transparency around how these rates are calculated.
One member told GMB that they are struggling to earn £12 per hour, which is below minimum wage.
Yodel adverts for couriers state that they can expect to earn £18-£20 per hour.
These changes follow a rise in courier’s insurance in June, which saw weekly charges rise from £3 to £8.45.
Steve Garelick, Regional Organiser, said:
“Couriers are facing diminishing returns on their hard work.
“We are asking Yodel to engage in genuine dialogue and ensure fair pay for its couriers rather than pushing them further into financial precarity.”
A GMB member working for Yodel said:
“The cost of living has skyrocketed and now I will be losing even more money each week.
“There was no negotiation about this change, and our contract is all one sided in Yodel’s favour.
“This is morally wrong.
“I would like to know whether any of the directors at Yodel are seeing similar cuts to their pay?”
